Seventh Biennial Conference of the European Rural History Organisation
9–12 September 2025, Coimbra, Portugal
The 7th biennial conference of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO) will be held in Coimbra, Portugal, from 9 to 12 September 2025, hosted by the University of Coimbra.
For more than a decade, the EURHO Rural History conference has been a key event bringing together researchers and students from Europe and other continents. The inaugural meeting in Brighton (2010) and conferences held in Bern (2013), Girona (2015), Leuven (2017), Paris (2019), Uppsala (2021/2022) and Cluj (2023) have strengthened scientific networks and promoted stimulating projects and publications. The Rural History 2025 in Coimbra aims to continue this positive trend by sharing different perspectives on the rural and agricultural past.
Increasingly, data from the past have become an explanatory resource used by different sciences, both to explore new avenues of inter&transdisciplinary research and to inform current agendas. So how is the making of history challenged by other disciplines objects, methodologies or sources? Rural and agricultural issues intersect with social, economic, political, institutional, environmental, scientific or cultural dynamics that have become increasingly relevant in recent debates. What is the role of history in the construction of the viable solutions that we need today? With more than seven centuries of activity, the University of Coimbra offers a stimulating and welcoming atmosphere to discuss the latest research results and to test new ideas. The Rural History 2025 conference is an opportunity to celebrate the curiosity, knowledge and solidarity that are essential to improving innovative science.
The Rural History 2025 conference website provides useful information on the Call for Sessions & Call for Papers, registration fees and accommodation suggestions. We encourage all participants to register as early as possible to take advantage of the early bird rates.
